Check out these collars and harnesses that I use when training my pets -- and yours!
CATS
Adventure Kitty Harness by RC Pets
This is the best cat harness around! Since our kitties are designed differently than dogs, harnesses are a better choice than collars if you're working on leash walking. Make sure to always look for Y-front harnesses since they don't restrict your kitty's movements.
Don't forget to spend time getting your kitty comfortable wearing the harness AND practice leash walking inside before you ever head out!
If fitted properly, you cat should not be able to slip out of this harness. It has multiple points of adjustment to help keep your kitty safely in the harness. I recommend having your kitty also wear a collar with ID when they are in this harness.
DOGS
Martingale Collar
I use martingale collars on any new dog that walks through my door - my own dogs, fosters, and training dogs.
Do you want to grab your dog's collar and make sure your dog is still wearing it? This is the collar for you!
Does your dog slide out of their collar during leash walking? This is the collar for you!
Did you like how your dog did on a slip lead, but want an option that doesn't cinch all the way up? This is the collar for you!
Starmark Collar
The gentle, yet effective, humane design of this collar is perfect for a puppy or low drive adult dog that struggles with leash walking. With removable links, this collar can grow with your puppy.
Make sure to schedule a session with a trainer before using this collar or any other training tool to ensure you use it properly and humanely.
Herm Sprenger Neck Tech
This is the collar that every dog in the Living Creatures Ministry program uses. Make sure to check out the different color and martingale options.
These heavy duty collars last a lifetime (and then some!) and require tools to add/remove links. You can trust that they will hold up to every day use with your pup.
Make sure to schedule a session with a trainer before using this collar or any other training tool to ensure you use it properly and humanely.
Herm Sprenger
This prong is the best brand around. The rounded tips (not sharp, cut-off edges like cheaper brands) keep your dog safe and comfortable, while the easy to adjust links make it easy for you to add/remove links and put on/take off the collar.
Contact a trainer to ensure you're ordering the proper size for your dog! Most dogs do best with 2.25-3.0mm links. Yes, even the larger breeds! The smaller link sizes make it easier to adjust for the most precise fit possible.
Mini Educator by E-Collar Technologies
The Mini Educator is my all time favorite e-collar! I love every single thing about this system. The intuitive button placement makes handing the remote a breeze. The huge variety of stimulation levels allows for humane use of the collar. The light option is great to use for late night walks or even to keep track of your dog in your own backyard! It has a 1/2 mile range AND it's waterproof! There are just so many perks to using this system. Other e-collar systems I recommend are Dogtra, Garmin, and Chameleon. Other cheaper systems are not an option when it comes to e-collar training. They do not stim reliably or consistently. It is unfair to use a poor quality collar on our pets.
Make sure to schedule a session with a trainer before using this collar or any other training tool to ensure you use it properly and humanely.
I also recommend these modifications for the Mini Educator to make the collar as comfortable as possible for your dog:
3/4" Bungee Collar: The bungee collar ensures that the e-collar fits properly, even when your pup's neck expands due to heavy exercise, heat, etc. If your dogs are small, like the King Pack, you can even trim the collar down to size so the ends aren't flapping in the breeze. Buy Now >>
Winged Soft Comfort Pad: This fancy little contraption helps your e-collar work better for your pup in two ways: 1. It's more comfortable! 2. It ensures that the collar maintains the contact needed to function properly. Korra, Zuko, and Gouda all have winged comfort pads on their e-collars. Buy Now >>
Ruffwear Flagline Harness for Dogs
This harness is our favorite for hiking with the dogs! It has 6 points of adjustment that make it easy to ensure it properly fits each pup. The Y-front style does not restrict proper shoulder movement (make sure to always avoid any harness that does!). Most dogs can climb and scramble better than we can but, in case of emergency, the handles on the back can come in... handy! We like to use a harness during hikes to allow the dogs to move ahead more freely, but please do note that dogs should be well-trained and avoid pulling long term even on this harness, as it is not designed for weight pulling.
